Chamonix and Valle Blanche

Em and I had a great time in Chamonix this week. Despite her fear of heights (and death), we decided to hire a guide and ski the Valle Blanche, an 11 mile glacial trek we really had no right to be on given our mad ski skills. George showed up early in the AM and we took the tram to the observation tower for Mont Blanc, modeled after Dr. Evil's lair.

We then took a knife edge walk the length of a football field down to where our skis were to be put on. Em was roped between myself and George and the steps were slow. I kept looking back, encouraging Em to take the next step. Finally she said, "Andre Shut Up! George tell me what to do." George had all the info and was the trusted source of where to step. I was along for the ride. I wondered if this is what it would be like down the road in our labor & delivery room.

After about a mile, we came across a poor dude who did not listen to his George and fell down a 15 meter crevasse. George (who always referred to himself in the 3rd person) went to help.

The day ended with a perfect meal loaded with cheese and wine in a chalet near the end of the glacier. Andre thanks George for keeping us safe!
